Academic cheating service: this term is defined in section 5 of the TEQSA Act as follows:

academic cheating service means the provision of work to or the undertaking of work for students, in circumstances where the work:

(a) is, or forms a substantial part of, an assessment task that students are required to personally undertake; or

(b) could reasonably be regarded as being, or forming a substantial part of, an assessment task that students are required to personally undertake.

ASQA: the Australian Skills Quality Authority. ASQA is the national regulator for vocational education and training. Not all universities provide vocational education and training. In Victoria, Swinburne University of Technology, Federation University Australia and Victoria University do - they are dual sector universities.

CRICOS: the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students - the Commonwealth register of Australian education providers that offer courses to people studying in Australia on student visas.

ELICOS Course: English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students. An ELICOS course can be delivered by a registered higher education provider or a provider which has an entry arrangement with a registered higher education provider.

Foundation program: a program that equips students with skills for entry into higher education programs. It provides an academic entry pathway to first year undergraduate study or its equivalent.

Self-assurance: A recommendation of the Rapid Review of ASQA’s Regulatory Practices and Processes 2020 was that ASQA should shift its regulatory approach from prescriptive and process-based compliance to a broader focus on self-assurance by training providers and excellence in training outcomes.
